2026

March: Now that the plan has officially launched, we’re deep into the data collection phase for our village activities and amenities. You can find a report on our progress in the March 2026 edition of Meldreth Matters. One of our biggest priorities right now is filling the gaps in our current list. We’ve realized that some amenities don’t have a “voice” yet, and we really need residents to step up as advocates for them. If a local service or space isn’t represented in these early stages, it risks being overlooked when it comes to future provision. So if you care about a specific spot that’s missing, please do get in touch.

Looking ahead, we’ll soon be recruiting for our core team and are excited about the prospect of several inspiring student projects if we can find candidates in the coming academic year.

January: The launch was an article in the January edition of Meldreth Matters followed by a Village_Flyer 07.01.2026posted in most letterboxes in Meldreth. These were to announce the launch of the work for a Neighbourhood Plan and to test whether people in Meldreth were willing and able to contribute. The good news was that over 40 attended the launch on a cold January night - if you missed the presentation an annotated presentation is available. The presentation outlined the importance of the a Neighbourhood Plan and the link to sustainable funding and support of Village initiatives - it described the next steps calling for Volunteers and building the list of Village activities which specify the information required to provide the options which will then be used in the whole village consultation planned for later in 2026.

2025

The Parish Council discussed whether it was time to produce a Neighbourhood plan. Twenty years ago we had produce a Meldreth Parish Plan 2005 possibly in need of revision and now more important because getting a Neighbourhood Plan adopted gives more power and resources to the village priorities (see the guide from the CPRE). However the council realised a Neighbourhood Plan requires significant help beyond just the members of the Parish Council. Some idea of the challenge can be judged from the SCDC guides to developing a Neighbourhood Plan and from the collection of sample Neighbourhood Plans.
